ISLAMABAD(National times)- Pakistan has reiterated its solidarity with the Palestinian people, calling for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and all occupied Palestinian territories, and urging full accountability for “war crimes and genocide” committed by Israel. Since the start of Israeli aggression on 7 October 2023, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed, while entire neighbourhoods, towns, hospitals, schools and basic infrastructure in Gaza have been reduced to rubble. A ceasefire was implemented on 10th October 2025 following international efforts, yet Israel continues intermittent strikes. Meanwhile, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari, in separate messages, reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. President Zardari paid tribute to the resilience of the Palestinian people, noting that Pakistan’s support is rooted in its very history — even the 1940 Lahore Resolution, passed seven years before Pakistan’s creation, included a clause supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state. Both leaders condemned ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, calling for a permanent ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian assistance, protection of civilians, and comprehensive accountability for crimes committed by occupying forces. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the ceasefire must be upheld, Israel must end all violations, and humanitarian aid to Gaza must flow without obstruction. He said complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and other occupied territories is essential and warned the global community not to overlook the worsening situation in the West Bank. Sharif said the continued expansion of illegal Israeli settlements constitutes a blatant violation of international law and a major obstacle to peace. Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, both leaders reiterated unwavering support for the Palestinian right to self-determination and for the establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. Across Pakistan and around the world, the Day of Solidarity with Palestine is being observed today. Rallies and demonstrations are being held to express support for Palestinians and to expose Israeli brutality in Gaza. International organisations and human rights groups have also called for an immediate end to Israeli atrocities.
