RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Rawalpindi police on late Tuesday night ended PTI sit-in outside Adiala Jail and arrested sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. Late at night, police released Imran Khan’s sisters — Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, and Uzma Khan — at the Chakri Interchange. After their release, Aleema Khan, along with her two sisters, departed for Lahore via the motorway. Earlier, police had detained Imran Khan’s sisters from outside Adiala Jail. Aleema Khan staged a 10-hour long sit-in near the jail after being denied a meeting with the PTI founder. During the operation, police also took several PTI workers into custody. After the arrest, Noreen Niazi’s health deteriorated at the Gorakhpur checkpoint near Adiala Jail. Aleema Khan claimed that the female police officers were dragging Noreen Niazi. In a statement on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, PTI said that police violently detained Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, and Dr Uzma Khan from outside Adiala Jail where they were staging a peaceful sit-in after being denied weekly meeting with their brother. The statement further said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial minister Meena Khan Afridi, MNA Shahid Khattak, and other party office holders and workers, including several women, were also subjected to violence and picked up by police. “What should be routine weekly court-mandated family visits, in accordance with Imran Khan’s rights as a prisoner, are being used as a tool of oppression and violence against his family members and supporters,” the statement said.
