All amendments proposed by coalition parties rejected

ISLAMABAD(National times)- All four amendments proposed by the government’s coalition partners regarding the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment have been rejected by the joint committee of the Senate and National Assembly on Law and Justice According to sources, during the meeting, the MQM amendment related to Article 140-A concerning the devolution of powers to the local government level, and the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) amendment regarding increase in the number of provincial seats were rejected. Similarly, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) amendment related to a uniform national curriculum and the Awami National Party’s (ANP) proposal to change the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were also rejected. Meanwhile, under the proposed amendment, the President of Pakistan will have lifelong immunity under Article 248. This presidential immunity will also apply to the past cases.
