Purpose of 27th amendment is to implement charter of democracy: Ahsan

LONDON(National times)- Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday said that the purpose of the 27th amendment is to ensure the implementation of the charter of democracy. Ahsan Iqbal arrived in London early Wednesday morning, where he held meetings with British officials at the Cabinet Office and Carlton House. Speaking about his visit, the federal minister said, “It has been a busy day. Talking about the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, Ahsan Iqbal said that it will be carried out in a transparent manner and will be debated in Parliament. The aim of this constitutional amendment is to implement the charter of democracy. He further stated that the 27th Amendment seeks to strengthen the judiciary. He said that our defense framework is based on the system established in 1971. Through the 27th Constitutional Amendment, we will introduce changes to ensure a stronger defense, he said. A strong judiciary, strong defense, and strong democracy are our goals, he added. Ahsan Iqbal said that the draft of the 27th Amendment will be presented on Friday adding that we will not introduce any amendment that weakens the foundations of the Constitution. He said that the opposition should also give suggestions for constitutional reforms aimed at strengthening Pakistan. The federal minister also congratulated Zohran Mamdani, saying, that he has brought new energy into politics and added that his victory is the beauty of American democracy. He said that Mamdani came from an immigrant and middle-class background, and I pray that he fulfills the promises he has made to the people.
