ADB launches ‘Glaciers to Farms’ programme for Pakistan

KARACHI(National times)- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has formulated a comprehensive agenda to help Pakistan safeguard its water resources, agricultural output and energy systems amid growing threats from climate change. According to the ADB, the initiative, titled “Glaciers to Farms Program”, will include a detailed report on the economic and environmental impacts of glacier melt across the country. The program aims to develop climate-resilient planning strategies to protect Pakistan’s water reserves, agricultural productivity, and energy infrastructure from the adverse effects of global warming. The ADB confirmed that it has sought recommendations from international climate experts regarding glacier melt management. These recommendations will be reviewed during the upcoming International Convention of the East Asian Economic Association, scheduled to be held in the Philippines on November 8–9. Sources said the program will serve as a key policy framework for Pakistan, focusing on efficient water use, modern irrigation systems, and mitigation of climate-related risks.
