ISLAMABAD(National times)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally requested the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to support the 27th Constitutional Amendment, according to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. In a statement released on social media, Bilawal said that a delegation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by the Prime Minister, met with President Asif Ali Zardari and him to discuss the amendment. The proposed amendment includes the establishment of a constitutional court, provisions for the transfer of executive magistrates and judges, and the removal of provincial share protections under the NFC (National Finance Commission). Bilawal further explained that the amendment seeks revisions to Article 243, the federal takeover of education and population planning, and mechanisms to break deadlocks in the appointment of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He also mentioned that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee will convene on 6 November, following President Zardari’s return from Qatar, to finalize the party’s policy stance on the amendment. The development comes amid ongoing national discussions on Pak-Afghan tensions and air pollution concerns (smog) affecting major cities.
