Court grants Parvez Elahi exemption from appearance in illegal hiring case

LAHORE(National times)- The Anti-Corruption Court Lahore on Wednesday approved a one-day exemption plea from personal appearance for former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi. Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich of the Anti-Corruption Court Lahore heard the case against Elahi and others regarding alleged illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly. Government lawyer Tanveer Chaudhry Advocate appeared before the court. During the hearing, Elahi’s lawyer argued that his client was unwell and requested a one-day exemption from appearance, which the court granted. Meanwhile, co-accused Ijaz, Zohaib, and Haider Shafqat filed acquittal pleas. The court issued notices to the Anti-Corruption authorities and sought arguments on the next hearing. Similarly, on the acquittal plea of co-accused Mukhtar Ranjha, the court also sought arguments from lawyers at the next hearing. Later, the court adjourned further proceedings of the case until October 8.
