LAHORE(National times)- Air Force Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm across the country on Sunday (today) to pay homage to Squadron Leader M.M. Alam whose 1965 feat will forever be remembered in the history of aerial warfare. On September 7, 1965, the Pakistan Air Force foiled the enemy’s nefarious intentions and made history, achieving air superiority over the rival — a feat once again demonstrated during the air combat in May, when PAF fighters shot down enemy aircraft. In commemoration of this historic day, Air Force Day is being observed nationwide. The nation takes pride in the sacrifices and achievements of its brave soldiers. During the 1965 war, Squadron Leader Alam performed a heroic act that remains unparalleled in military history: he shot down five Indian fighter jets in under one minute. This remarkable accomplishment is still considered an unforgettable chapter in the history of the Air Force. Throughout the 1965 war, PAF pilots displayed courage and skill, crushing the enemy’s evil intentions.
PRESIDENT PRAISES PAF
President Asif Ali Zardari said, in his message, that the Pakistan Air Force wrote a new chapter of bravery during the 1965 war. The PAF demonstrated exceptional skill and professional courage.He added that the “Pakistan Air Force has always defended the nation’s airspace, and the nation salutes its martyrs and veterans. The PAF played a decisive role in Marka-e-Haq, and the nation takes pride in the capabilities of its air force.” The president said that the modern capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force are a guarantee of the nation’s defense.
PRIME MINISTER’S TRIBUTE
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on the Air Force Day, said he is proud that the Pakistan Air Force has established its dominance in aerial warfare. “Its multi-dimensional capabilities and innovation are unbeatable, and the PAF has proven that the spirit of a nation can never be defeated.”He said the Pakistan Air Force, together with the armed forces, played a decisive role in Marka-e-Haq. “The purpose of celebrating this day is to remind the coming generations of the dedication, determination and bravery of our air force to protect the nation,” he added. The valiant Pakistani pilots, despite limited resources, inflicted humiliating defeat on India through unprecedented skill in the warfare and insurmountable courage. The PAF ace, Muhammad Mahmood Alam, commonly known as M.M.Alam, shot down five Indian Air Force fighters in less than a minute.
RASHID MINHAS REMEMBERED
The nation is also remembering Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, the only PAF officer to receive the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honour. A floral wreath was laid at his mausoleum, prayers were offered, and the young pilot was honored for sacrificing his life for the country.
