138 civilians killed in 605 terror attacks during eight months in KP

PESHAWAR(National times)- A total of 605 terrorist incidents occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the first eight months of the year, claiming lives of 138 citizens. It was revealed in a report released by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), reflecting an increase in terrorism. According to the CTD, these attacks resulted in the deaths of 138 civilians, while 352 others were injured. It said 79 police personnel were martyred and 130 wounded in various attacks and encounters. The report stated that 351 suspects were named in these incidents, out of which 32 were killed during operations, while 5 were taken into custody. The month of August saw a sharp rise in terror activities, with 129 incidents recorded. These included the deaths of 17 civilians and injuries to 51 others. Thirteen police officials were killed and 46 injured during confrontations with militants during the same month. Bannu emerged as the most affected district in August, with 42 reported incidents. Other areas that experienced significant violence include North Waziristan with 15 incidents, South Waziristan with 14, Dir with 11, and Dera Ismail Khan and Kurram with 8 incidents each. The CTD report revealed that eight terrorists were killed in encounters in previous month.
