Punjab Police on high alert as flood situation worsens in Sutlej, Chenab, Ravi rivers

LAHORE(National times)- The flood situation has intensified in Rivers Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi, prompting Punjab Police to be placed on high alert, Dunya News reported on Wednesday. According to Inspector General (IG) Punjab, rescue and relief operations have been accelerated on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, In flood-affected areas, Safe City’s thermal imaging technology and drone cameras are being used to rescue stranded people and livestock. A Punjab Police spokesperson has informed that so far the police have evacuated 343,605 flood victims, including 134,395 men, 101,893 women and 107,317 children. Additionally, 466,794 livestock, worth millions of rupees, have been rescued and relocated to safer places. IG Punjab has issued high alert orders to police in all affected districts, including Shahdara, Multan, Kasur, Vehari, Lodhran, and Mailsi. He emphasized that the police officials are working shoulder to shoulder with other agencies for rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of flood-affected people during this extraordinary flood crisis. IG Dr. Usman Anwar also paid tribute to the bravery and dedication of police officers and personnel who are risking their lives to save others. He has ordered enhanced security, surveillance, and patrolling in evacuated and vulnerable areas.
