Protective embankment of River Ravi blown up to save Head Sidhnai

LAHORE(National times)- In a critical move to protect Head Sidhnai near Pir Mahal, authorities have blown up the protective embankment of the Ravi River while the water level in the Chenab River continues to rise due to another release of water from India. According to details, Mai Safuran embankment was blown up at two locations using explosives. The water flow at Head Sidhnai has reached 173,000 cusecs. In Khanewal, floodwaters have entered more than 25 villages. Water flow in the Sutlej River continues to increase. At Head Ganda Singh, water flow has surged to 269,000 cusecs. An embankment was broken near Mari Mian Sahib in Bahawalnagar, flooding populated areas and farmlands. A high-level flood has been recorded at Head Trimmu, with a flow of 399,000 cusecs. Sources said that 800,000 cusec floodwater is expected to pass through Multan today. So far, 400,000 people from Multan and surrounding areas have been evacuated to safer places. As per the data of PDMA, 124,000 cusecs of water was passing through the Head Sulemanki, 125,000 cusecs at Head Balloki, 239,000 cusecs at Head Marala, 166,000 cusecs at Khanki Barrage and 128,000 cusecs of water was passing through Head Qadirabad. Punjab is facing a dangerous flood situation as multiple rivers — especially the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej — record massive increases in water levels. Authorities are actively breaching embankments to manage the pressure and prevent major infrastructure damage, while large-scale evacuations are underway.
