Kashmiris observe India’s independence as black day across the world

Web Desk(National times)- Kashmiris across the world, including in Pakistan, are observing India’s Independence Day today as a black day. According to the Kashmir Media Service, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has called upon the brave and resilient Kashmiri people to observe a “complete shutdown strike today (August 15)” in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The APHC stated that the day India celebrates its independence is “a dark reminder for Kashmiris of slavery, forced occupation, and oppression.” “We observe this day as black day to show the world that the Kashmiri nation cannot be subdued by Indian occupation. The nation is a freedom fighter,” it said. “The Kashmiri people maintain that they are only demanding their birth right in accordance with UN resolutions, and once again, by observing India’s independence day as black day, they are urging the international community to fulfill its responsibilities.” Following the Hurriyat leaders’ appeal, Indian occupation forces responded with usual oppressive tactics — conducting raids, arresting dozens of youth, and suspending internet services. Despite this, Kashmiri youth across the valley began putting up black day banners, black flags, and Pakistani flags in many places. Anti-India slogans and pro-freedom graffiti were also seen in various parts of Occupied Kashmir. Meanwhile, Hurriyat leaders observed Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14 as a “Day of Gratitude” and extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Pakistan.
