Eight killed, several injured as cloudburst strikes Bajaur

PESHAWAR(National times)- Eight people have lost their lives in Bajaur due to a lightning strike and a cloudburst, while five people died when a house roof collapsed in Lower Dir on Friday. The incident in Bajaur occurred near the Salarzai tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a cloudburst triggered a flash flood, sweeping away eight people. Several houses were damaged, four injured individuals were pulled from the debris, and 17 people are still missing. According to rescue officials, the search and rescue operation is ongoing under the supervision of Bajaur District Emergency Officer Amjad Khan. Reports also suggest that multiple people have been injured. Local sources said that due to the cloudburst, water levels in the area rose to dangerous levels. Blocked roads have made it difficult for rescue teams to reach the affected areas. The local population is trying to rescue victims on a self-help basis.

Five killed in Lower Dir roof collapse

In addition, continuous rainfall has been reported in Lower Dir since last night. In Sori Pau, the death toll from a collapsed house roof has risen to five, with two people injured. The deceased include women and children from the same family. Rescue officials said that the house roof collapsed late at night due to heavy rain. Seven people were trapped under the debris; two injured individuals have been shifted to Timergara Hospital. Flooding in the Panjkora River and surrounding streams has also led to the closure of several connecting roads. The floodwaters severely damaged the Odigram link bridge, disrupting traffic flow. Late last night, 25 tourists trapped in floodwaters were successfully rescued.
