Washington (National Times) The White House on Friday dismissed reports circulating in Pakistani media that claimed U.S. President Donald Trump is planning an official visit to Pakistan later this year.
“A trip to Pakistan has not been scheduled at this time,” a senior White House official confirmed, refuting speculation that had emerged earlier in the day from various Pakistani television channels.
These reports, which cited unnamed sources, suggested that President Trump would visit Islamabad in September prior to a scheduled trip to India. The reports were later withdrawn.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office also stated it had no information regarding any upcoming visit by the U.S. President. “We have no information about this matter,” said Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan while addressing the media.
While denying the Pakistan-related reports, the White House detailed President Trump’s upcoming foreign travel plans. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the President will travel to Scotland from July 25 to 29, where he will visit Turnberry and Aberdeen as part of trade negotiations with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “President Trump will refine the great trade deal between the U.S. and the UK during this trip,” Leavitt said.
Later this year, from September 17 to 19, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will return to the United Kingdom for a second official state visit. During the visit, the First Couple is expected to meet King Charles III at Windsor Castle.
The last sitting U.S. President to visit Pakistan was George W. Bush in 2006. Despite recent diplomatic engagements, including a visit by Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to the White House last month, no announcement has been made regarding a presidential visit to Pakistan.
