Brussels (National Times) A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Member of the National Assembly and former Foreign Minister, commenced its official visit to Brussels with a series of strategic engagements aimed at highlighting Pakistan’s concerns over the evolving regional security dynamics in South Asia.
The visit is part of Pakistan’s broader international outreach to convey its principled stance on India’s recent unlawful provocations, including its unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty—a move Islamabad views as a serious threat to global treaty-based systems and regional peace. During the first leg of the visit, the delegation met with Mr. Bernd Lange, Chair of the Committee on International Trade (INTA) at the European Parliament, where Chairman Bhutto Zardari emphasized the destabilizing implications of India’s aggression on trade and connectivity in the region, while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to constructive engagement under the GSP+ framework.
In a subsequent meeting with Ms. Birgit Stevens, Director General for Bilateral Affairs at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides discussed ways to deepen bilateral ties and collaborate in multilateral forums on peace and rule-of-law issues, with Pakistan lauding Belgium’s support for a rules-based international order.
At the Belgian Parliament, the delegation held in-depth discussions with senior legislators including Ms. Kathleen Depoorter and Mr. Franky Demon, focusing on India’s regional destabilization efforts, disinformation campaigns, and the weaponization of shared water resources. The Pakistani side reiterated its strong stance against terrorism and highlighted the international risks posed by India’s reported transnational assassination plots.
The day concluded with Chairman Bhutto Zardari delivering a keynote address at a high-level policy roundtable hosted by the Egmont – Royal Institute for International Relations, where he warned of the global implications of India’s revisionist policies and the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling for collective international responsibility in addressing climate insecurity and treaty violations. Throughout the day’s engagements, the Pakistani delegation advocated for restraint, responsibility, and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions, especially on the Jammu and Kashmir issue.
The delegation included senior figures such as Dr. Musadik Malik, Senator Sherry Rehman, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan, Senator Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, and former Foreign Secretaries Jalil Abbas Jilani and Tehmina Janjua. These engagements marked an important step in reinforcing Pakistan’s foreign policy objectives and amplifying its voice on regional peace and stability across key European platforms.
