Brussels (National Times) A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation comprising former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar and Senator Faisal Subzwari met with Ms. Brigit Stevens, Director General for Bilateral Affairs at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss key issues concerning regional security, bilateral relations, and international cooperation.
During the meeting, the delegation presented a comprehensive overview of the security situation in South Asia, emphasizing Pakistan’s principled approach of restraint, responsibility, and diplomacy. They reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace, regional stability, and multilateral engagement.
A central focus of the discussion was the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, with the delegation underscoring that sustainable peace in South Asia is unattainable without a just and peaceful resolution of the issue in accordance with the UN Charter and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The delegation also expressed deep concern over India’s recent actions to place the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, warning of the serious humanitarian and legal consequences such a move could trigger. They described the weaponization of water as a dangerous precedent that could have far-reaching implications for global peace and security.
Highlighting the importance of international law, the delegation stressed that normalizing unilateral escalatory actions undermines the rules-based international order, and called on all parties to respect the sanctity of international treaties and agreements.
Both sides also reviewed the state of Pakistan–Belgium bilateral relations, expressing mutual interest in expanding cooperation in political, economic, and development sectors. The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to dialogue and collaboration on pressing global and regional challenges.
