Brussels (National Times) A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation led by Senator Sherry Rehman and former Minister for Commerce and Foreign Affairs Engr. Khurram Dastagir Khan, along with former Foreign Secretary Ambassador Tehmina Janjua, held a key meeting at the European Commission’s headquarters in Berlaymont.

The delegation met with Lucie Sestakova, Head of Cabinet to the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, and Natividad Lorenzo, Cabinet Expert on Asia. The meeting focused on critical issues concerning regional security, international law, and Pakistan–EU development cooperation.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace, regional stability, and multilateralism, the delegation raised serious concerns over recent escalatory trends in South Asia, particularly highlighting the humanitarian and legal implications of India’s actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. They stressed that placing the treaty in abeyance sets a dangerous precedent and violates established international obligations.

The delegation emphasized the need to respect treaty commitments and uphold international norms to ensure long-term regional peace and water security.

On the development front, the delegation welcomed the European Union’s cooperation with Pakistan under the Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) and the Global Gateway initiative. They expressed appreciation for the alignment of these initiatives with Pakistan’s national development priorities and climate resilience goals.
