Attempt to smuggle Rs20m local, foreign currency foiled at Karachi airport

Pakistan(National Times)- The Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled an attempt to smuggle local and foreign currency worth over Rs20 million to Canada and arrested a passenger at Karachi airport. According to officials, the arrested individual, identified as Irfanul Haq, was scheduled to travel to Toronto when ASF personnel intercepted him. During routine baggage scanning, ASF experts flagged the passenger’s luggage as suspicious. A subsequent manual search of the bag led to the recovery of $70,000, 2,200 Canadian dollars, and Rs160,000. A passenger is only permitted to carry up to $10,000 in foreign currency while travelling abroad. Authorities said that the seized amount totalled over Rs20 million in local and foreign currency. The smuggling attempt was thwarted successfully, and the suspect was taken into custody. He, along with the recovered currency, has been handed over to Customs officials for further investigation and legal proceedings.
