Pakistan Caucus says Trump’s controversial immigration policies won’t last long

Pakistan(National Times)- NEW YORK: Congressman Tom Suozzi, the head of the Pakistan Caucus in the United States Congress, has voiced concerns over the current political climate in the US under the administration of President Donald Trump. In a recent interview with Jang, Suozzi addressed the anxieties within the Pakistan-American community and other immigrant groups, attributing this “uncertainty” to President Trump’s immigration policies and other activities. He thinks that the situation will not last long.  “President Trump’s popularity is not very high. Republicans have a majority of only a few seats in the House of Representatives and a majority of only one or two seats in the Senate,” he said. “President Trump will soon need the support of the Democratic members of Congress, then they will play their role.” He expressed concern about and acknowledged the fear and panic among the Pakistani community and other immigrants.  Earlier, Suozzi also addressed a gathering at the residence Dr Ijaz Ahmed, the founder of the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee (APPAC), an organisation to promote Pakistan-US relations. During his address, Suozzi announced that he is set to host an important gathering on April 30 regarding Pakistan-US relations and that he will visit Pakistan in the next few months.  He also mentioned his recent meeting with the Pakistani ambassador. Speaking on the occasion, APPAC’s newly-elected president, Dr Iqbal Pervez, said he would further activate the organisation and make it more effective.  The US Congressman also cut a cake to mark Pakistan Day.
