Google Wallet Launches in Pakistan, Expanding Digital Payment Options

Starting today, cardholders from major Pakistani banks can add their cards to Google Wallet. Beyond payment cards, Google Wallet will also support digital boarding passes. “Pakistan’s digital payments landscape is evolving rapidly, and with more people embracing digital transactions, Google Wallet provides a secure, seamless, and efficient way to make payments, shop, and travel,” said Farhan Qureshi, Country Director for Google Pakistan. “It will enable Pakistanis to tap-and-pay in stores, check out seamlessly online, and easily access their boarding passes when they travel. Google Wallet helps keep everything protected in one place, no matter where they go. More importantly, this launch will go a long way in supporting financial inclusion in Pakistan and unlock economic opportunities for all. This milestone further cements Google’s unwavering commitment to Pakistan, reinforcing our belief in its digital future and potential.” Google Wallet facilitates contactless payments in stores wherever they are accepted and can also be used for online and in-app purchases where the Google Pay button is displayed. Online merchants and KE will soon be available with PayFast’s integration with Google Pay. Businesses using Safepay’s platform will also soon offer Google Pay. For travelers, Google Wallet provides convenient access to boarding passes, with the added benefit of receiving notifications about departure time or gate changes. Users can also utilize Google Wallet for secure payments while traveling internationally. Adding cards and digital items to Google Wallet is designed to be user-friendly. Existing cards saved to a Google account can be easily set up for contactless payments, while new cards can be added through the app. Boarding passes and other digital items can be added with a simple tap, such as after purchasing a flight ticket. Google emphasizes the security of Google Wallet, highlighting features like industry-standard tokenization, device-specific alternate card numbers, and dynamic security codes for each transaction. Banks also require verification before a card can be added, and screen lock protection adds another layer of security. In case of a lost or stolen device, the Find My Device function can be used to lock it, secure it, or erase personal information. Google Wallet is now available for download from the Google Play Store.
