Pakistan(National Times)- Separate traffic accidents in Karachi claimed three lives and left four others injured, the latest tragic incidents in the port city as traffic-related casualties continue to rise. A youngster was killed and his two brothers were critically injured when a speedy dumper truck knocked them down in Baldia Town. The heavy-duty vehicle hit the three brothers, who were riding a motorcycle near Lucky Charhai, Old Toll Plaza.  As a result, 18-year-old Rahib, son of Akhwan Khan, died on the spot while his two elder brothers — Munir and Sahib — sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital. The three brothers were employed at a marble factory in the industrial area and were returning home after work. According to the statements of the injured, the dumper was coming in the wrong direction, the police said. Following the accident, police reached the area, arrested the dumper driver and impounded the vehicle. However, no case has been registered so far. Meanwhile, another motorcyclist was injured in a similar accident involving a dumper truck near Singer Chowrangi, Korangi. Separately, 65-year-old Hafeezullah was killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle near the Hasan Square Flyover within the limits of the Aziz Bhatti police station, The News reported on Friday.  Police said the victim was crossing the road when he met the accident. The police have registered a case and are looking for the vehicle that hit the victim. Moreover, a car rammed into a motorcycle near Khayaban-e-Sahil, DHA, killing a woman on the spot and injuring a man. The car driver fled the scene while the injured man was shifted to a medical facility. Police sources confirmed that the driver of the car abandoned the vehicle.  Over 150 people have been killed in different road accidents in Karachi during the past two months. Comparing the figures to last year, the metropolis witnessed a 74.4% increase in road fatalities, with 86 deaths recorded in January and February 2024, as per last week’s police data.  During the same period this year, 69 people lost their lives in January and 40 in February, with victims ranging in age from 2 to 75 years old.
