Nawaz Sharif to address huge public gathering on Youm-e-Takbeer

LAHORE (National Times) The PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has decided to address a huge public gathering on Youm-e-Takbeer – the day when he would assume the office of party president once again after almost seven years.

According to sources, over 5,000 PML-N workers and office-bearers have been directed to reach Lahore for the power show.

The former three-time prime minister will be elected as PML-N president once again on May 28 during the meeting of party’s general council.

It has been decided that the general council meeting would become a huge power show of PML-N.

Nawaz Sharif will address the party workers after taking the reins of the party once again. He is likely to address on organisational and constitutional matters after becoming the party president on May 28.

The May 28 date was selected carefully as the day is celebrated as Youm-e-Takbeer to mark the historic nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan in 1998 when Nawaz Sharif was serving as prime minister in his second stint.

Earlier, the Punjab chapter of PML-N had passed a unanimous resolution requesting the elder Sharif to lead the party once again.
“Mian Nawaz Sharif ceased to be the president of the PML-N as the result of a controversial judicial order. All obstacles of suppression are over and he stands vindicated. The PML-N will move forward under his leadership,” PML-N Punjab president Rana Sanaullah had said after the passage of the resolution.

“Nawaz Sharif had been requested to reassume the charge of the PML-N,” he has said.

He added that the former prime minister had been forcibly separated from the party in 2017.

According to insiders, it was decided to separate the organisational and government offices in order to make the party more vibrant.
The party insiders said that the elder Sharif will embark on countrywide tour after taking the charge of party to revive the deteriorating vote bank of PML-N.

Nawaz Sharif will visit all four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan after May 28.

The general council meeting of the party would be held at a private hotel instead of Model Town secretariat due to the extreme weather.
