Forces repelled a coup attempt in Congo

Congo (National Times) Armed forces in the Republic of Congo on Sunday repelled an attempted coup involving Congolese and foreign fighters.
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s military spokesman said in a televised address that the armed forces repelled a coup attempt Sunday morning involving Congolese and foreign fighters.
Ekinge said a coup attempt was thwarted by defense and security forces, involving foreigners and Congolese.
However, the spokesman did not clarify whether those involved in the operation had been detained or killed.
Previously, the spokesperson of the Congolese member of parliament Vetel Kamerhe and the Japanese ambassador said in a post on X that two guards and an attacker were killed in an attack near the house of Vetel Kamerhe.
The US embassy said on Sunday has issued a security alert in the Democratic Republic of the Congo regarding the activities of security personnel and reports of gunfire in the area.
