Surge in Omicron cases: Karachi’s coronavirus positivity ratio reaches 20pc

KARACHI (National Times) – The cases of Omicron in Karachi are increasing at an alarming level as the positivity ratio has reached 20 percent, Sindh health department officials said.

According to details, the new variant Omicron has been diagnosed in 95 percent patients in Karachi whereas Lahore and Islamabad have recorded positivity ratio as 7 percent and 4.56 percent respectively.

On the other hand, Pakistan has reported 13 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 1,309,248. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 28,987.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 2,074 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Till now 13,083 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 7,691 in Sindh 5,945 in KP, 967 in Islamabad, 748 in Azad Kashmir, 367 in Balochistan, and 186 in GB.

Furthermore, 490,010 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 448,924 in Punjab 181,842 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 109,660 in Islamabad, 34,715 in Azad Kashmir 33,664 in Balochistan and 10,433 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan has so far conducted 23,935,232 coronavirus tests and 44,120 in the last 24 hours. 1,259,699 patients have recovered in the country whereas 617 patients are in critical condition.

The COVID-19 positivity ratio was recorded at 4.7 percent.

So far, 100,410,291 people have received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine including 331,511 in last 24 hours. 75,225,220 citizens have been fully vaccinated while 496,717 received their second dose in last 24 hours.

The number of total administered doses has reached to 163,648,656 with 826,996 in the last 24 hours.
