Islamabad: The convener of Pakistan Steel Mills Stake holders group Mamraiz Khan Wednesday offered govt a deal, saying that his group will re-establish Pakistan Steel Mills if govt grants them 300 million dollars.
Talking to Online, Mamraiz Khan said that current Steel Mills management is incompetent, its Chief Executive and board must be sacked immediately. They are selling Steel Mills’ assets and machinery surreptitiously, Mamraiz alleged.
Mamraiz Khan further said that he has presented his case before National Assembly’s standing committee for Industry and Production as well; adding that liabilities of thousands of employees are still to be paid and current administration is unable to decide whether to privatize Steel Mills or to restore it.
The convener alleged current Steel Mills’ administration of illegally selling machinery to the market and said that they are corrupt and looters.
Mamraiz Khan said that NAB and FIA are just spectators in this ‘mega scandal’. There is another scandal of selling Steel Mills’ land. Both provincial and Federal govt are involved in it, Mamraiz alleged adding that govt is wasting its billions of rupees in paying pensions and salaries of employees, while we are only demanding 300 million dollars to restore institution’s credibility and functionalize it.
Talking about institutional losses, Mamraiz said that Steel Mills is facing a deficit of 6.5 million rupees per hour, while an overall loss of 625 billion rupees has been recorded so far. We demand there should be no politics over this issue, rather political parties and govt should support us for institution’s restoration.
Mamraiz maintained that he wrote a letter to Secretary Industry and Production and presented his point of view. Govt is unable to privatize it yet, and we don’t see any policy for it either, Mamraiz Khan said.
