IHC bars EC from hearing disqualification case against Faryal Talpur

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has barred Election Commission (EC) from hearing the disqualification case in respect of Faryal Talpur, sister of former president Asif Ali Zardari.

The court while issuing notices to ECPO and other respondents has sought reply from them.

The IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah has issued the stay order.

Farooq H Naik, counsel for the petitioner took the plea that EC has not heard us on the petition pertaining to restoration of disqualification case. Disqualification case was restored without hearing us.

He said PTI MPA Arsalan Taj and Raja Afzal have filed petition seeking disqualification of Faryal Talpur. The EC reopened disqualification case on the petition filed by MPA Arsalan Taj and Raja Afzal. The EC had already dismissed the petition being not pursued by these two MPAs.

He argued EC reopened the disqualification case following the filing of petition on February 08.

He prayed the court to set aside the EC February 08 decision besides restraining it from initiating further proceedings.

The court while seeking reply adjourned the hearing of the case till May 28.
