PM saddened on Ali Geelani’s death, announces day of official mourning

ISLAMABAD(National Times): Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday expressed condolence over the death of Kashmiri freedom fighter Syed Ali Geelani and announced a day of official mourning.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kashmiri freedom fighter Syed Ali Geelani who struggled all his life for his people & their right to self determination,” the prime minister said on Twitter.

He said late Geelani suffered incarceration and torture by the Occupying Indian state but remained resolute.

“We in Pakistan salute his courageous struggle & remember his words: “Hum Pakistani hain aur Pakistan Humara hai” (We are Pakistani and Pakistan belongs to us),” he remarked.

The prime minister also announced that the Pakistan flag would fly at half-mast as the country would observe a day of official mourning.
